Susan Wyche, Strategic Communications Consultant

As an academic, Susan collaboratively developed an innovative writing program at Washington State University, which continues to be ranked among America’s best academic programs by such venues as U.S. and World Report and Forbes Magazines. She directed the Writing, ESL, and Basic Writing Programs and taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses. In 1997, she moved to California, where she founded the University Writing Program at the brand-new California State University at Monterey Bay.

Susan is the author of numerous articles on writing, the teaching of writing, and writing assessment, and a co-producer of two award-winning educational videos. She also has been recognized by two universities for distinguished teaching. In addition to her work with writing programs, she helped found environmental education and service learning programs while at Washington State University.

She has written and, in some cases, administered grants ranging from $2,000 to $2,000,000 from such sources as the Department of Education, Office of Naval Research, Newman’s Own, and Weyerhaueser on a range of topics from school and community gardens, academic support for underserved populations, critical thinking, and military language and culture training.

She received her Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Washington and graduated cum laude from Pomona College with a B.A. in English. She also has training in mediation and collaborative negotiation.

She currently lives on Maui and works as a freelance writing/editing consultant and environmental community activist.
